Last updated October 1, 2026 · Questions? hello@blurty.app

Blurty is a dictation app for the Mac, run by Gabriel Nejad, an individual based in North Carolina, USA ("we"). This policy explains what Blurty collects, why, and what we never do. Questions: hello@blurty.app.

The short version

  • We never store your recordings. Your voice is turned into text in memory on your Mac and then discarded.
  • By default, your voice and your words never leave your Mac. Transcription runs on your Mac.
  • Our server knows only your email (if you sign in), a scrambled ID for your Mac, and your plan.
  • We don't sell your data, show ads, or use cookies. The app has no analytics; the website only counts visits, anonymously.

What stays on your Mac

Your dictation history, custom words, and settings are stored on your Mac and nowhere else. You can erase your dictation history any time in Blurty › History › Clear history. Show & tell screenshots are deleted automatically within a day.

What leaves your Mac, and only when

  • Cloud recognition (optional, off by default). If you turn it on and enter your own Deepgram API key, audio is sent to Deepgram for transcription under your own Deepgram account and their privacy policy. We never receive it.
  • Sending to Claude (only when you choose to). When you send something to Claude, Blurty passes it to the Claude app or claude.ai on your Mac, under your own Anthropic account. We never receive it.
  • License checks. About every few hours Blurty asks api.blurty.app whether your plan is active. It sends a one-way hash of your Mac's hardware ID (we never see the ID itself) and, if you're signed in, your session.
  • Updates. Blurty checks get.blurty.app for new versions.

What our server stores

  • Your Mac: a one-way hash of its hardware ID and when its free trial started, so each Mac gets one trial. We also store a scrambled code (not the address itself) for the network it first connected from, to stop trial abuse.
  • Your account (if you sign in): your email, which Macs you use Blurty on (up to 3), and your plan's status from Stripe.
  • Students: the school email you verified, so one school email can't be shared across accounts.
  • Sign-in codes and sessions: stored only as scrambled hashes. Codes expire after 10 minutes. Sessions end after 90 days without use, or when you sign out.
  • Security logs: failed sign-ins, rate limits, and similar events, which can include an IP address. These are kept for a few days to spot attacks.

Our website

blurty.app uses Cloudflare Web Analytics to count page visits: which pages are viewed, the referring site, and the country and type of device. It uses no cookies, doesn't fingerprint your browser, and doesn't track you across sites or identify you. When you click Download, we add one to a count of downloads for that day; nothing about you is stored.

Who helps us run Blurty

  • Cloudflare: hosts our server, database, website and downloads, and counts website visits (see above).
  • Stripe: handles payments. Your card details go straight to Stripe; we never see or store them.
  • Resend: sends sign-in and verification code emails.

Each one only gets what it needs to do its job.

Your choices and rights

You can use Blurty without an account. Wherever you live, you can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the data we hold about you: email hello@blurty.app from the address on your account and we'll handle it within 30 days. Deleting your account cancels any subscription. Payment records Stripe must keep by law stay with Stripe.

Children

Blurty is not meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data. If you think a child has given us their email, contact us and we'll delete it.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date above and tell signed-in users by email or in the app before it takes effect.
